Native Princess
This bay 1997 filly is a true rarity as the only Trakehner
mare out of a daughter of racing legend Nijinsky
II. Daughters of Nijinsky II
produce an average of 33 % Stakes Winners and are sold at public auctions for
average prices of more than $ 200.000, so breeding a daughter of this legend to
a Warmblood doesn't make commercial sense.
Native Ballet
Nijinsky II
But in the fall of 1995 we were fortunate enough to be able to
buy a 17 year old dark bay daughter of Nijinsky II, the 16.1 h mare Native
Ballet. She had only three starts, but her efforts on the track made her one of
the top two year old fillies in Canada, raced by Sam-Son Farms. As a broodmare,
she had produced 100 % winners from starters when we bought her, so the logical
thing was to breed her to a Thoroughbred.
But since we wanted to introduce these bloodlines into the
Trakehner breed, we decided to breed Native Ballet to the dark bay
Enrico Caruso son Insterfuerst,
who's dam Insterschwalbe II is a full sister to the Neumuenster Reserve Champion
Insterruf, still standing at
stud in New Mexico at the age of 30.

In 1997, the bay filly Native Princess was born. At her foal
inspection, she received mainly 8s from Dr. Baird, and her meanwhile 19 year old
dam was accepted into the PSB with a total score of 48 and an 8 on conformation.
Unfortunately, we lost this wonderful mare one year later,
when she foaled an outstanding bay filly by Champion Kostolany,
which also died. So it will be up to Native Princess to carry her dam's legacy
as a Trakehner foundation mare.
